The Cleveland Browns’ history dates back to 1944, when the team was formed and began play in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) in 1946. Cleveland was a dominant franchise, winning all four AAFC championship games while posting a 52-4-3 record.

The league folded in 1949 and Cleveland would go on to join the NFL in 1950. Their dominance continued in reaching six straight NFL Championship games from 1950-1955. They won the championship during the first year in the league in 1950 and also in ‘54 and ‘55.

Soon after, future Hall of Fame RB Jim Brown joined the team in 1957. Brown would go on to lead the league in rushing in eight of his nine seasons, and also in total touchdowns in five seasons. He currently ranks as the NFL’s 10th all-time leading rusher.

All that winning left with Jimmy Haslam taking over ownership, though. Under Haslam, the Browns have the lowest winning percentage in their history (20.8%).

The Browns went 0-16 in 2017 with an equally unimpressive 4-12 mark ATS. But the franchise appears to have taken a turn for the better since letting head coach Hue Jackson go. After Jackson went 0-16 in 2017 and started the 2018 season 2-5-1 before getting canned. Following years of dismal performances each season, the Browns turned a corner in 2021, posting an 11-5 record. The Browns returned to mediocrity just a year later, coming up short of a .500 winning percentage with an 8-9 record that ultimately led to the departure of QB Baker Mayfield.

While the Browns are led by superstars like Myles Garrett and Nick Chubb, they started the 2022 season without new QB Deshaun Watson who is embroiled in legal troubles. While Browns fans remain patient in their wait for a new era of dominance, the team is struggling early through the 2022-2023 season and are projected to finish below the .500 winning percentage line and miss the playoffs yet again.
