Success was a long time coming for the Buffalo Bills.
While they are a franchise that has been defined by their postseason performances, unfortunately for #BillsMafia, it’s not playoff successes. Four-straight Super Bowls and no championships in the early 90s. Then there was the devastating Music City Miracle in 1999.
That kicked off 17 straight seasons without a single playoff appearance, which was the longest playoff drought in all major North American sports.
Thanks to Tyrod Taylor and a very strong secondary, Buffalo was able to snap that skid last year.
While it didn’t end the way they wanted, losing 10-3 to the Jaguars in the Wild Card round, the Bills were one of two teams to make the playoffs with a new head coach. Buffalo finished 9-7, just their second winning season since 2005.
While their 20th-ranked offense (18.9 points per game) and 18th-ranked defense (22.4 points per game) were middle of the road, they were able to exceed expectations, going 9-6-1 against the spread. That was good for fifth-best in the league.
The 2018 season saw the introduction of rookie QB Josh Allen. He flashed his potential, especially as a runner, but the results were underwhelming on the whole. The team went 6-10 with a -105 point differential. Don’t blame the defense, though, which finished second overall in DVOA.
With young their young core now a year more experienced, expectations are that the Bills will be improved in 2019, especially if Allen can turn into a viable dual-threat QB with improved accuracy.
